Political CareerAfter five years in Sandhurst, Churchill decided to pursue a career in politics, and hope to make a living off of his writing and pen. Churchill went from being a member of Parliament in the Conservative Party for Oldham, to becoming a member of the Liberal Party in 1904. Four years later, he was then elected Parliament and was also chosen to be the president of the Board of Trade. In 1908, Churchill was the one to introduce new ideas such as minimum wage, reforms for the prison systems, and helped those who were unemployed with labor exchanges and unemployment insurance.
Churchill also took part in revamping the British Navy. He ordered that the warships shall be built instead of coal-fired engines to oil-fired engines. He was the one who promoted the idea of military aircraft and eventually structured the Royal Navy Air Service. Europe was entered into war after the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand in Sarajevo in June 1914. Churchill was determined that Britain must be prepare to play their part in the war. On August 4th, 1914, Germany invaded Belgium and that was the start of war for Britain. |

Churchill believed that he had the a successful campaign but only ended in disaster. Three of Britain's cruisers sank in the North Sea in September of 1914. By December, Scarborough was attacked by German battleships. Churchill had a plan on sailing through the Dardanelles to force Turkey out of the war. The attack began on March 18th of 1915, and by April 25th, the troops landed in Gallipoli. The invasion eventually led to 250,000 casualties, Allies surrendering, and Churchill was forced to resigned.

Return to the Military
After Churchill's resignation, he enlisted in the military as a lieutenant colonel of the 6th Royal Scots Fusiliers for France. By June 1916, he returned to Parliament as private member once his regiment was merged. A month and year later, Churchill was then appointed as minister of munitions. His role lead to the tank production that was beneficial in weaponry.
